Performance: Peter Evans, Travis Laplante, Dan Nettles & Thomas Crane, Jeramy Lamanno & friends, Killick
Saturday, May 12 at 8 PM
Flicker Theatre ans Bar, Downtown Athens

Lo Yo Yo Stuff Records is pleased to present an evening of the finest, freest improvised music Athens has to offer, and very special guests from New York. Trumpeter Peter Evans and saxophonist Travis Laplante are prominent members of the NYC avant jazz community. Evans is an astonishing voice on a demanding instrument. According to Evan Parker, he is “at the center of the next generation of players.” Laplante will be touring behind a new record out on Skirl entitled “Heart Protector.” The Chicago Tribune simply claims that his music “might change your life, indefinably.” Each will perform a solo set.

Brooklyn-based drummer/composer Thomas Crane will be joining composer/guitarist Dan Nettles for a set of improvised originals based on the life cycle of fireflies, using prepared guitars, amplifiers, and found objects. Locals Jeramy Lamanno and Kris Deason, drummer and guitarist for the mighty Garbage Island, will present a new collaboration. And multi-instrumentalist Killick will guide the audience through a three-part journey, channeling equal parts physicality, emotionality, intellect, and spiritual openness. Come out and support musicians who are pushing boundaries to create an exciting and inspiring experience.

Exhibition: Three Dodd Alumni
Thursday, May 3 to Saturday, July 28
Reception: Thursday, May 3 at 6 PM
Town Two 220 Restaurant and Gallery, West Washington Madison, GA

Greg Benson (MFA ’92), Kim Shockley Karelson (BFA’86)’ and Jill Schultz McGannon (BFA’85, MFA’88) are the featured artists in the up and coming exhibition 3 Points of View: Landscapes presented by the Madison Artist Guild. Each has created landscape paintings from his or her point of view.

In spite of making his life in Georgia, Greg Benson never quite shed his Penn. upbringing and many of his most recent paintings fuse childhood memories with the still intact scenery of Lower Millford Township Pa. Kim Shockley Karelson is a fourth generation Shockley, a family that has lived in the Madison area for over 100 years. She enjoys painting the southern landscape from intimate vignettes to grand vistas. Jill Schultz McGannon paints realistic landscapes, figure, and still life in oils, preferring to work from life whenever possible. Her favorite destinations for Plein air landscape painting include the Georgia coast, the mountains of North Carolina, the hills of California, and the Italian countryside.

Friday, May 4 at 7 PM
Lamar Dodd School of Art, Art X Wing (1st floor)

The spring Interactive Art Class at UGA will hold a group show with student work created this semester under Dr. Eric Marty. The class has worked with a diverse range of sensor technology to create a variety of interactive works throughout the semester. This rare show features interactive music and generative video controlled by performers and audience movements. Artists are working with facial recognition, artificial intelligence and other novel techniques. This is a great chance to see interactive art in Athens. The show, titled REG EX, is built on a diverse collection of interrelated pieces that dialog through sound and imagery.
